*Welcome to the KPU Student Acupuncture Clinic! **

Our Traditional Chinese Medicine-Acupuncture Diploma students are required to complete practicum hours in order to graduate, and our clinic provides students with hands-on experience and knowledge in patient care in a live clinical setting, all while supervised by instructors who are registered practitioners, acupuncturists or Doctors of TCM. Summer 2024 (May - August 2024) appointments are now available for you to book.

No show appointments and late cancellations (within 72 hours) are subject to a 50% fee ($12.50).

We only allow patients to book three consecutive appointments online; further bookings can be placed on our waitlist

Privacy Notice

KPU’s Traditional Chinese Medicine Program (“TCM”) collects personal information under the authority of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of BC for the purposes of providing the TCM services and operating the TCM clinics.

TCM uses “Jane” to collect and manage your personal information. When you create a profile in Jane, some of your personal information (i.e. name, email address, appointment details) are shared by Jane with third party service providers outside Canada, which Jane uses to send you emails and/or SMS/text messages related to your appointments at TCM. By using Jane to book your TCM appointment, you consent to the disclosure of this personal information outside Canada.

Dr. Chan received his Bachelor Degree in Health Science from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, Australia and the Bachelor Degree in Chinese Medicine from the Hong Kong Baptist University. He further obtained his Doctoral Degree (M.D.) in Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine from the Southern Medical University, China.

He has special interests in musculoskeletal pain/stroke and the TCM internal medicine treatments/helping cancer patients.

He also pays visits to patients in elderly care centers and hospitals. He has participated in many community health volunteering activities in B.C., Hong Kong and the remote villages in mainland China and Cambodia. He has given many TCM health talks to the public.

Dr. Chan teaches the Musculoskeletal Management, Western Medicine and TCM Diagnoses, Tuina (Chinese Massage), Pathology, Pharmacology and Clinic Practicum courses in KPU. He also taught herbology courses in other TCM schools.

Dr. Jianying Gao is a passionate, influential doctor and educator of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Gao, a CTCMA registrant since 2005, brings to the profession more than 22 years of experience in clinical practice in both China and Canada. She comes from a long line of TCM doctors and, inheriting that passion, has been a TCM educator for 15 of those years, teaching at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and Tzu Chi International College of TCM in Vancouver.

Gao obtained her bachelor’s degree from China’s Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Her areas of focus include digestive, respiratory, gynaecological and skin issues, emotional conditions, and pain management. She takes a multi-dimensional approach to diagnosis, believing in the connection between emotional and physical health, and is passionate about the value of patient education. Her broad professional knowledge in both clinical practice and in teaching has given her a deservedly solid reputation.

Dr. Lu graduated from Guangzhou University of TCM in double-major of TCM & acupuncture with a degree of medicine. He started practicing TCM and acupuncture in Vancouver since 2004 and teaching TCM and acupuncture courses in various institions.

In the last 15 years he has given presentations and talks in public libraries, community centre and radio program on philosophy, medicine and science. He is currently serving as the president of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists Society.

Dr. Lu is specialized in treating chronic pain and autoimmune disorders using acupuncture and herbal medicine. His doctoral degree study is on acupuncture treatment for autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and related diseases.

Dr. Yan Qu, a registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been trained in both western medicine and Chinese medicine for 12 years. She obtained the bachelor’s degree in western medicine in Lanzhou university, and the master’s degree in TCM in Guangxi TCM university in China. She has also gone through a traditional way of training with few well-known TCM masters for many years.

Dr. Qu is one of the pioneer instructors in KPU acupuncture program and has owned a great reputation among students about her knowledge, skills, passion and compassion. She inherited a traditional approach to diagnosis and needling technique. She thinks a successful treatment is from the efforts of both doctors and patients and believes that living with awareness is the starting point of healing.

Dr. John Yang graduated from Hainan University Medical School, Haikou, China. He received his TCM training at Hainan Provincial Hospital of TCM, Haikou, China and a PhD from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, China. For the past 11 years, John has been the Dean and Clinic Director at the PCU College of Holistic Medicine, Burnaby. As an expert in the field, John has given many national and international presentations and lectures on TCM.

Dr. Yang is the former President at the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture of British Columbia (ATCMA, formally the QATCMA). He is also the Chair of the Academic/Educational Committee of ATCMA. Dr. Yang is the current President of the Federation of Traditional Chinese Medicine Colleges of Canada and a committee member on the Standards Council of Canada, Canadian Advisory Committees for International Organization for Standardization for TCM. John was elected as professional board member at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA).
